Nit Wits

lice1
Louse Field Study.

Day 3.

In case you missed the Octamom Scalp Update from yesterday, let me catch you up.

We made a disturbing discovery on Monday. It seems that two of the kids have lice.

Ew.

So we've done the shampoo thing and the OCD level of cleaning thing. And we've now moved on the Internet Cures.

Hence the Heavy Conditioner/Shower Cap methodology:

lice2

This theory states that if you douse the kids' heads in conditioner and let it sit for hours and hours, any parasite will be drowned in that wave of creamy goodness.

We don't think that 7 of 8 has any nits...but we're playing it safe. And the boys? I gave them close crew cuts.

And the photo shoot? Well, I figure that we might as well 'celebrate' the experience. 1 and 2 of 8 conducted the photo shoot and I think they did a stellar job capturing the glamor of the day.

And I figure that it's true beauty when you can show off your lice treatment with pizazz....

I posted about about our head lice treatment plan last year.
I'm glad to see it's not getting you down.
We used tea tree oil. It worked great. You can find it at Walmart or any health food store. It stinks really bad, but it worked very well.
Just mix it in with your regular shampoo.

Love it! They look so darn beautiful... even with the shower caps! :) I was a swimmer for years... whoever can pull off the swim cap or shower cap is definitely a beautful, sassy (good sass, not bad sass!) kind of girl. :) Here's hoping the lice vacate quickly!! :)

True beauty indeed!! Don't forget to empty the vacuum bags immediately, outside of the house. Our school nurse taught me that trick...I'm so flighty I never would have thought about it. Good luck getting rid of those annoying little critters!

Wow, what great pictures. Every time the Lil Miss' school had lice in the school, I did the teatree oil treatment - spraying on when she goes to school and it worked.

Well, it looks like they're not too upset about the whole situation! :) Such sweet kids!

Those pictures are just adorable!

It would be a good advertisement for the lice treatment, usually you think or see pictures of kids that look miserable because they have a little bug in their hairs but this almost make having the little bug problem fun!!!

I did say almost because I'm sure it's no fun to have to do all the clean up etc...

I love that you will not only admit that your kids got lice, but that you own it. These pics are adorable, who knew Lice could be so cute? lol

Ahhh! LOVE it! You can play right along with all of us who are doing Fall Fashion week! This is hip to the max!

So sorry for your lice and all, but this is like my fave post next to the tator tot van surprises post.

You had to use the lice shampoo and still cover them with plastic? Is it like an extra precaution?

I wouldn't skip the hair-dryer segment.

And the boys' hair has to be less than 1/4 inch.

Not that I know much about this, or anything.

Oh, and all the experts who claim that it doesn't travel easily from kid to kid? There is a special, lice-filled circle of hell just for them.

glad to see there are still smiles even with the bad event taking place

I must say, they do make lice treatments cute!

My kids will be SO happy to know that they are not the only ones who have had to walk around with plastic on their heads...but here, I am not as fashionable...they had to walk around with plastic Target bags fashioned into white do-rags on their heads. Hee hee

Best of luck on the deaths of parasites!!

it takes true talent to look that good in a shower cap!! There are very few women that can manage that!! ;-)

Cute pics....despite the lice :) I like it!

Cuties! Yes, I think #7 is gorgeous for sure! Of course, she reminds me A LOT of my #7. ;)
On another note, we had a prayer request here at the House of Prayer for a couple who's 8 months pregnant and just found out that the baby had a stroke in utero. That's all I know right now, but I thought you would be a great partner intercessor for this baby boy Jacob. Thank you!

First your kids are beautiful and even with lice, they are stunning. I'd love to know how the lice treatment goes... not looking forward to when I have the majority of kids in school!

Those are the cutest shower capped kids on the planet. You know that, don't you? Tell me what works the best just in case nits come home to my house......:)

Oh, I feel your pain! We dealt with lice over the weekend, too. It was a nightmare. Worst of all? I think I gave it to Uma Thurman. Long story.

And your kids?? GORGEOUS.

You know you have great lookin' younguns when they still look cute in shower caps!

JMBMOMMY said...

Wow, stunning--even in shower caps. lol. Never experienced the lice thing yet...but know from a close friend it is not a laughing matter--nightmarish huh?

Mummy McTavish said...

That is the most fashionable I have ever seen a shower cap. It almost looks like lice is the 'in' thing! And that 7of8, she was born to be a shower cap model!

Further to Gina's vacuum comment way up the top... suck a cotton ball of tea-tree oil into the vac first so that it has a chance to kill some of the suckers before you empty the bag... it'll kill your dust mites too (though I'm sure a home such as yours would have no such thing ☺)

Bummer!!! :( NO FUN! Those eyes under all those shower caps! So gorgeous! :)

Cute pics ... but oh so NOT fun. We've done the lice thing once, and I hope and pray that they don't come our way again.

Just a hint because those buggers and eggs can live for up to two weeks after the fact. I would bag up all stuffed animals and unused cloth items in the rooms and remove them and keep them bagged for two weeks. My parents took in foster kids growing up and we had them once in a family of 10 and until we battled every room of the house they just kept reoccuring! we also threw away every comb, brush and anything used on the head. Its easier to buy new then to keep fighting..... Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but they don't die easy.... I also worked in a prison and they do jump from coats, jackets, clothes everything. Thats why parents freak so bad when they get the dreaded letter from school. I have used the treatment on my kids before as a preventative if I find out a kid in their class has it just because I know the head treatment usually will prevent the lice and nits for up to 2 weeks. Good luck ..... Hearts and Hugs Marie
