If You Give a Twin a Sharpie....

july 09 009
It got a little quiet around the house one afternoon this week.

Very quiet.

I don't remember this artwork on these pajamas when I bought them...

It was sort of a long afternoon, once it wasn't quiet anymore...

  1. oh wow! those quiet little spells are dangerous! i guess you should be happy that at least it wasn't on the rug?

we've had similar things around here, too. like crayons on the brand new siding.

    little ones make life interesting!

  2. Oh no!! And that Sharpie takes forever to come off of skin. Ugh!

  3. Oh my. That's happened around here, too. Although the one time my son decided to paint his face green, he was lucky that he picked a face crayon and not a marker to do that! I always get nervous when it's quiet around here.

  4. OMGoodness. Love the pictures. Sorry that happened though. I can't imagine the clean-up both of you had to endure. Nothing good comes when the house is too quiet. I have found lil' D dropping things into the duct work, to trying to cut into a tangerine with a knife. Happy WW! Have a wonderful day and take care.

  5. I'm not laughing *snicker* really, I'm not. :)

I was in the bathroom recently and saw in giant, permanent marker letters *N*I*Y*A*H* on the back of the door. I confronted my little artist, only to hear.... "I think Nater did it"
mmm hmmm.. the 2 year who can't write yet wrote your name on the bathroom door. yep.

  6. Haha...For future reference (not that I have E.V.E.R had that experience) Sharpie comes off with rubbing alcohol, especially from doors. Red ones tend to leave a pink reminder and if you have stucco walls, well that's another story. You can also use magic eraser to get it off of the wall. Children's skin??? well a good soak in the bath until they are pruney will get most of it off. Welcome to the club! (Oh wait...I said I have never expeirenced that, didn't I.)

  7. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

See I know the decibel level in my house if I had found that...

    Big Hugs!!!

  8. Oh, man... all I could do was laugh, I mean, feel bad for you! You've got a serious graffiti artist or two practicing this fine art!

    Hugs,

  9. LOL. Better find the best stain remover for those graffitis. :)

Nice meeting you on Seven Clown Circus. :)

  10. Oops!

Love me some inked skin. Does she hold a copyright on those tattoo designs?

  11. What IS it about children, markers, and an expanse of fresh, clean skin?! :) And yes, the deafening silence is always telling. I once called out to the silence and The Manimal responded "I not drawing on nuffing Mommy!"

    Mr. Clean is my friend.

  12. Now that made me lol. I guess it wouldn't have if I seen it in person.

  13. I have a very similar photo, but thank the Lord, it wasn't a Sharpie! She didn't mean it, Mom!

  14. Oh my! It looks like you have a budding artist. How much got on the carpet?

Did she survive that one? :)

  15. Oh no! Although I'm thinking it must be in the air somehow. My EIGHT-YEAR-OLD decorated his legs with a red sharpie yesterday. He said he wanted to look like he had the chicken pox. Boredom is a dangerous thing.

  16. Quiet times are never good! I remember when Bekah was 2 or 3 and I walked into the bathroom after a brief period of quiet to find red nail polish all over the floor, door, cabinets and child. Same child, same week, the little plastic toilet paper roll holder had been flushed down the toilet requiring full removal of said toilet. If a house of chaos is quiet....LOOK OUT!!! :)

  17. Oh my goodness! Bless her heart... and YOURS for the patience to try to get it off!!! Magic Eraser, anyone? Not on her skin, of course, but maybe on the backpack??

  18. OH NO!!!!!
I am constantly reminding my hubby to put away the pens when he is done. I just know that will happen in our house sometime soon.

  19. what is the fascination with sharpies? My son did the same thing.

  20. There is not an ocean wide enough to separate a two year old and a sharpie. They can find them even if you can't.
Love the pictures. It is nice to see someone else is dealing with the same problems I have.

  21. I've learned that quiet around the house is NEVER a good thing! Too funny, Julie (or, actually, not!).

One time my kids had friends over and things got really quiet. I looked around the house, trying to find them, and eventually did...

in the pantry, huddled together on the floor, eating handfuls of chocolate chips. :)

  22. at least she got herself - my little once chose my hardwood floors and my fridge! With a blue sharpie - my fridge never recovered!

  23. Ahhh LOL! I love how Mom's know that quiet = no good...no good at all.

  24. That looks strangely familiar. My oldest got sharpies (a set of 24 colors, no less) for Christmas a few years ago, and little brother found them. He decorated the walls and the carpet, the pillow cases, and the blankets. Joy.

  25. Ohhhh yah...I always know when it's quiet, there's something going on!!

Oh my gosh..how long did it take to get the marker off of her??

  26. ACK!

Everyone thinks that silence is golden with kids - little do they know.

Although I'd actually prefer this scenario to the one my youngest presented me a couple of years ago - she decided to give her American Girl doll tattoos on both arms and legs with a Sharpie. And since I can't afford a hospital stay for the doll to get repaired, she is permanently inked.

  27. I try to educate the husband about these very quiet spells, but he doesn't listen, He actually thinks it's a good thing!

I"m guessing those weren't washable sharpies!

Why do I have the urge to go search for sharpies to ensure their safe handling! lol

  28. oh my goodness, how in the world need you get that off her skin? She even has a look like "I can't believe I let him do this..."

  29. Kids and markers... LOL
My son and his cousin went around with a sharpie a couple years ago putting prices on things (including my furniture)while they played store. Actually the rocking horse in my wordfull Wednesday today has a mark on his nose from that event.

  31. LOL better hide the scissors :) They'lle give each other haircuts.
I now store sharpies and markers super high.

  32. Oh holy cow, Batman....that's a lot of Sharpie on them there princesses. Hope it all comes off!

  33. My kids will actually sneak the Sharpie to their bedroom because they KNOW they're not supposed to use it! Forget the fact that they have about 50 washable markers! I finally had to lock all markers in a small lock box.

  37. hehe....oh no!! at least it was mostly on her and not the house... :)

thanks for the follow... I am now following you too!!

  38. UGH! I despise those quiet moments when you stumble upon a mess like that! Have you found any magic remedy for getting the sharpie off skin?

  39. I was afraid at first that you were going to show sharpie marks all over the carpet. We've had that. And the wall. At least it makes for some good pics, eh?! ;)

  40. My youngest son updated my parents' brand new countertops with a sharpie when we first got here. Thank you Jesus and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, it came off. :)

  41. Oh my! At least I did not notice any on the carpet! I suppose it is a good idea to test the idea of tatoos before making them permanent--forever permanent, I mean.

  42. As soon as I saw your title, I knew what was coming. I'm just glad it wasn't on the carpet.

The first time I came home with a henna, Ilsa took a marker and drew one on herself too :) And she was TWICE 7's age. Of course it was more artistic... ;)

  43. Oh.My.Gosh! That is IMPRESSIVE "artwork" ;)

  45. NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not a sharpie. Anything but a sharpie. Thank goodness she confined her art work to her nightgown and legs. I keep Sharpies up VERY, very high. :)

  46. Oooohhh myyy. *sigh* I'll pray for you and the princess p.j.'s!

  47. A timely reminder to keep permanent markers and other such items away. Preferably in someone else's house. My daughter isn't old enough to contemplate such chaos, but we are frequently visited by her three-year-old cousin. We know enough to hide the scissors after she decided to try making paper snowflakes on her parent's couch (newly recovered at great expense too, isn't that always the one toddlers pick to deface?) but hadn't really thought about markers...

  48. Oh!! I am familiar with that method of fun!! at least it was her legs... my kids did each other's faces... my third and fourth. Goodness, that was an interesting "art" moment. :-)

  49. Ah yes, I have a post upcoming that is QUITE similar, except mine is a pen, and my 9-month-old was the "paper"

  50. Everytime the house is quiet during daylight hours, You know someone is up to something, right "Mom"? :)

Hubby used to believe if they kids were quiet they were being good. Not anymore. Lets just say thay Duplo Blocks little boys giggling and the sound of a toilet flushing are not good combinations.
