Hands a Half Century

hands1edit
It's one of my favorite set of photographs I've ever taken.

And I've taken a lot of photographs.

A precious friend of mine graciously extended an invitation to me to take pictures at her parents' 50th wedding anniversary.

I was so honored.

To be a part of the commemoration of a half century of commitment, love, laughs, tears and experiences.

Amazing.

And this couple has an amazing story.

They have parented nine children, raising them in the Far East.

Their third child made her way to America at the end of seventies.

Her siblings filtered into the country through the years.

And then in the 1990's, this precious couple followed their children to live their American dream.

These are hands that have weathered many adventures in life.

These are hands that hold memories.

These are hands that carry a story.

These are hands that have cradled babies, have released a life across the sea and have gripped this country as home.

And clasped between these hands is a life shared, a journey conjoined, a heart combined.

And I am inspired.

  3. Oh how in love with these photos I am! You've inspired me to maybe do a series of hand photographs. It's amazing how much history and love you captured in those pictures. They are beautiful! How did you come up with the idea to shoot only their hands?

  7. You always make me cry! These pictures are so touching! What a treasure!
I've only been married 5-1/2 years, and already we have shared so much together. It has been a difficult 5 years (two job losses, 5 moves, births of 2 children, including one preemie and the bedrest & NICU & all) but we have grown close through the challenges. . .
So. Now I'm imagining what that's like multiplied by 10, plus the wisdom that comes with aging. . .
And I become hopeful that maybe someday, that will be us too!! :-)
    Happy happy 50th, dear ones!!

For us it's 7&2/3 down 42&1/3 exciting years to go! I hope my hands look that good then! With signs of hard work but still soft enough to gently wipe away (great?) grand chilrens tears. Aww, what special photos.

  15. Incredibly poingnant and beautiful pics. The story behind them only makes them more precious. My hat's off to you that you went beyond capturing the moment to capturing their story. Not always an easy thing to do with a camera.
