If You Give a Twin a Cookie.....

7of8cookie

If you give a twin a cookie...you'll have to give the other twin a cookie, too...

and they'll want sippy cups of milk to go with it...

And while you sit at the table with your laptop, naively blogging....

They'll spit some of the milk in the sippy cups onto their highchair trays...

And they'll make this...

cookietray

And some of this...

cookietray2

And your floor that was so lovingly scrubbed and squeaky will look like this...

floorscape2

...because somehow, twins already know how to open up the sandwich cookie and eat the filling and throw the cookie bones to the floor...

floor1

...because apparently they are twin cookie geniuses when it comes to cookie filling...

And while you are still blogging, they'll empty the package...

cookie

And you'll be thinking how quiet and cooperative they are being...until you look up from your screen and see their little faces....

...which means you'll have to put them in the bathtub...and the water will turn chocolate brown...but on the up side, your bathroom will smell like cookies...

And once they're all clean...

they'll probably want another cookie...

And you'll probably let them have it....

  8. Hysterical, Octa! We have an un-photo-documented (couldn't reinforce that one!) "If You Give a Twin a Blue Supposedly Washable Marker" episode that these pictures remind me of! As soon as I saw your title, my reflexive follow-up was, "If you give a twin a cookie, the mom will want one, too!"

So funny...and those eyes are so easy to drown in! :)

  21. Too cute! Yes, I know all of it. I've got the same issues. And that is a funny book series that I've just discovered. We have the pig one and the kitty one.

I just gave you an award on my blog.

  29. Remind me not to have twins... or children in general :-)

  30. ADORABLE! Your very own cookie monsters:)

  31. That's funny. I had a similar version of this a few days ago with Hudson, but with a bowl of refried beans (my kids love beans!). I was trying to make dinner, and he was cranky, and will usually only eat something that he can feed himself. I put him in the high chair in the kitchen and just gave him the bowl of beans and the spoon. I was able to sneak in a few bites that way as he was playing, but I basically left it up to him. He had a dried layer of refried beans all over the tray and himself. Good times;)

  32. This is one of my favorite posts ever!! I have pictures of my kids looking like that!! LOVE it!!

  33. I love that wonderful dream state you enter when you think to yourself, as a mom, hey, my kids are being good and playing so nice together. Sigh. Then reality hits and you wake up to the mess they have been so diligently working on creating! That's was cleaners and towels are for, right?

  34. Love this. :) I keep hearing how twins seems to double up and gang up on you, but I've never experienced it firsthand. Thanks for showing us the fun! The upside is maybe they wont be hungry for a snack after eating a whole bag of cookies. ;)

  35. Love the pictures!

    Your twins are adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Love the pictures of their cookie-covered faces. Is it just me, or do they have that sugar-crazed look to their eyes? At least they were in highchairs - confined to one space to make a mess in. :)

  37. Hah! I love Laura Numeroff's books!

  38. I am curious how you do the faded edges of your photos. Is this something you do with your camera or is it something you photoshop??

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'd give them cookies too. Who could resist those little faces?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have had the same thing happen with chocolate pudding. Why is food so much better when you can wear it?

    ReplyDelete
  41. What fabulous pics! They are TOO cute! I would probably have a meltdown seeing the mess, but it makes for a great post & memory!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Great photos! Those cookies were definitely worth it. Those twins are too cute!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Too funny(or should I say TWO funny)...Thanks for the post! Glad to know I'm not the only one faced with this caliber of messiness...lol!

    And, of so true...
although in my case today it was while I was on my laptop reading blogs, the twins decided to share a drink from the guinea pigs water bottle! YUCK!

  48. Well just look at them...how could you possibly say "No"?! Aaahh these are the days that you will remember all your life, or at least until the next disaster happens!

  49. The cookie "bones" was priceless!!! Never thought of it that way before!

  50. Flickr is acting up and I can't see the pics (on yours or my own blog), but I LOVE the prose!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. now didn't they have fun!? soooo cute!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Most of my kids do not like the cookie part of oreos. I buy the double stuffs, as there are less cookies to leave all over the house. If only they sold containers of oreo filling. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Darling! Love the, "twin cookie geniuses."

Rumor has it that you're working on a sequel, If You Give a Mom A Blog?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Too, too funny and cute! Love the vivid photos that go with your story! My first thought when I looked at the first picture was OMG... Hannah-speak, so-to-speak.

  55. Been there, done that. For that reason, they were forbidden in the house for a while. However, my husband would manage to sneak some in from time to time leaving me with a similar picture. Even one of our local eateries was in on the conspiracy to make me crazy by placing a little package of them in the kids' box of chicken tenders. I quickly learned to open the boxes away from them and hide the cookies until we were in a cookie safe environment.

I can't believe you had the presence of mind to take a picture of the scene. You are so funny.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wow, that is quite a mess! Love it!

    ReplyDelete
  57. AWW ADORABLE! the pictures and story! I especially love the first/last picture. :)
haha... they ARE geniuses... they know about the oreo cookie "bones" (nice term for it, btw) not being as satisfying as the centre even without being taught! :)
have you read If You Give a Moose a Muffin? It's also cute. :)

  58. My b/g twins are 11 now, but I well remember the "if you give a twin a cookie" days. I used to write a humour column and I used this same idea once. (only I wasn't brilliant enough to take such fun photos) Great minds think alike :)
