Horses and Chariots and Little Tykes, Oh My!

If you've got toddlers in the house, I'm sure you've seen the latest product from those Picassos of plastic, the Little Tykes folks.

You know, the Greco-Roman Chariot.

It's so great! The kids just love it!

They can pretend to be charioteering gladiators, chasing all the other Romans around the Circus Maximus.

It's a toy that's such a great blend of imagination and ancient history.

Don't they just look ferocious?

I'm really glad we went ahead and got the optional big sister motor system to go along with the chariot--it makes the whole thing so much more realistic...

We super excited about the Little Tykes Trojan Horse coming out soon. Does anyone know when that one is supposed to hit the stores?

  1. Does that big sister motor cost a lot to run? Is she an off the shelf model or special order? have her recent modifications impacted her warranty? (oh somedays dontcha wish they came with a warranty??)

7&8 look like they are ready to take on any gladiators that dare challange them. I love little kid imagination!

Little Tykes make the most brilliant toys! We love waffle blocks but they are super hard to come by in Australia (love eBay).

  2. Such a toy makes me wish that I had twin toddlers to buy one for!! That looks like as much fun to watch as it does for them to ride.

  3. Ahh... that looks familiar. We have shopping cart races at our house. Little brother gets stuffed inside a plastic shopping cart, and you race around the kitchen table as many times as you can before a) Mom calls Time-Out or b) shopping cart tips over and baby brother starts screaming.

  4. That looks like fun! And I couldn't help but notice, after reading about your little trooper's struggles using her left hand, how well 7 of 8 is holding on to that chariot!

  8. There is nothing better than watching children's imaginations at work. They are never to old to play.

    Great pictures!

  9. We had the Little Tykes small play gym indoors for the longest time and my kids always turned it on its side and used it in odd ways. Gotta love that creativity.

  11. I like how he is standing protectively around her. As all little twin brothers should =) I think he looks like 3 0f 8.

  12. The Big Sister Motor sure cuts down on battery costs, huh?

I really need one of those .. right now, all our chariots are running off of the Mommy Motor. And her left tushy muscle is really feeling it...

  17. oh i love it! my three are quite fond of turning a chicco play table into a chair by dumping out all of the pieces, taking the top off and then climbing in! and then the fighting ensues, since only one can fit at a time... at least your chariot holds 2 :)

  18. ROFL bless them!! That is one cool chariot, obviously pre "the whole wheel thing" but cool non the less!
I'm sure the trojan horse is already out, occasionally it doubles as a lidded toy box but they will love climbing in and hiding in there. Oh and the big sister motor system works with it too so that is totally money well spent ;)

  22. I'm still reeling from "Picasso of Plastics"!

I have to tell you, though - it takes a homeschooler to realize the connection between an upside-down plastic slide and the history of the Ancient World.

  23. They look very purposeful. Do they realize the "lions" (ie brothers and sisters) are in the next ring? Maybe the big sister motor will become a lion tamer to protect the little ones? :)

  24. hilarious! they are too cute. And I have a toddler and do not have this piece of plastic. other plastic pieces, yes... but not this one. however, it does look bigger than our living room :)

  25. Wow! That puts our Rubbermaid storage container/firetruck/dump truck/hotel/barn/school bus/refrigerator/jail cell to shame! My children would be so jealous... they've never had a chariot or a big sister motor (since we have all boys).

  26. Love that their chauffeur is wearing sungoggles to protect her eyeballs from the chariot flames.

  27. I don't know that "particular" one well, but the story, YES! :-)

Sorry I've been gone! I've been so busy! J was in your area yesterday.

I've been thinking of you lately when I run and listen to my playlists. I need new ones soon, so I'll be posting them on my new marathoning blog. Next one is April in Nashville!

  28. LOL The best usage of toys is always in a way it wasn't intended ;)

  29. What super neat toys---My kids are all grown and we NEVER had things like that. I used to sit my babies in laundry baskets, propped up with pillows and throw tupperware lids in to play with. BUT my grandkids would sure love that stuff. CUTE blog girl.

  30. Adorable. I love when kids reinvent their toys. Those twins of yours are just precious.

  31. That is so cute.
Our mode of transportation is a laundry basket and a big sister or big brother. They can get to flying on the wood floors we have!
