A History Lesson from 6 of 8

Many of you have probably been waiting for more kernels of wisdom from 6 of 8, given her recent missives on psychology, philosophy and theology. So it is with great pleasure I'm able to bring you yet another brilliant facet from 6 of 8's perspective of the world.

1 of 8 loves old typewriters and has developed quite a beautiful collection. Her typewriters are artistically displayed in her room, each one highlighted. 6 of 8 was chatting with 1 of 8 in 1's room last week when the following exchange took place.

6 of 8: "You sure do love typewriters!"

1 of 8: "Yes, I do!"

6 of 8: "Once they get too old, can I have one?"

1 of 8: "That's the great thing about these typewriters. The older they get, the cooler they get because they are a part of history..."

6 of 8: (eye roll, exasperated...) "Tsk, no, 1 of 8, history was when the world was black and white..."

I suppose that's how you can know if your antiques are truly old...if they're still in color, they apparently are not all that old...

  1. So Dorothy really went into the future in The Wizard of Oz? The world is all making sense. Now what's not to believe, she saved me from couch jumping in heels, the whole Santa thing is sorted, 6 is my life coach! I hope she doesnt start charging for this.

  2. That is the funniest thing I ever did hear. I guess I will have to start dying my hair soon to keep it from being "Black & White." I don't want to be truly old.

  4. At church last Sunday all the children's' teachers were asked to bring pictures of themselves as babies. Mine was black and white. Guess I'm a part of history.

  5. It's a good thing somebody discovered colour! What would the world be like if we lived in historical times, with the drabness of black & white? ;)

  6. Very funny! One of mine asked the other day if there was electricity when I was little! I'm only 34! Ha!

  7. So glad I live in the future .. I couldn't do without purple.

This sounds like a conversation my sister and I would have had back in the day. I love typewriters too .. I guess now that I have my own house, I can start buying and stashing them, hm? =-)

  9. My Granny turned 88 yesterday and she keeps saying how she's getting so old. Now, I have someone to back me up when I tell her she has nothing to worry about. She's still very colorful. :)

What an interesting thing to collect. That's pretty cool.

  14. I said the same thing to my Grams when I was a little girl, lol!

I used to collect antique typewriters too, a long time ago. I'd love to see a picture of 1 of 8's collection sometime!

  16. When I was young I thought the world was black and white when my parents were young because all their photos were black and white.

What? It was logical. 6 of 8 thinks so, right? :-)

  17. Ahho YESSS!! I just loves me some kid speak. It is so raw and engaging. So philisophical. Bring me more of this Octamom. You can see some of ours now posted as Taylor Talk and More Taylor Talk. Two seperate post that are both very funny if you havent seen them yet.

    Love and Prayers,

  19. I love listening in to conversations like this or even being a part of them.
The wisdom and logic that comes out of the mouths of babes....priceless!
It is also so funny to see their exasperated look and tone.

  20. So, those black and white photos we had taken at Christmas might be worth something? Awesome, I'll have to take them to Antiques Roadshow when they're in the area. I might be a millionaire.

  21. Forgot to add that there was no sound in history. Just silence or maybe (if you are lucky) a soundtrack.

  22. That makes perfect sense to me.
(Note to self: Quit photoshopping stuff into b&w)

  24. I love her explanation. Maybe that means I won't ever really be old since I am in color.
