  7. Excellent post and Hooray for 4 of 8 - resistance IS futile when someone is loved! (little Borg reference there) Well written and important since so many will deal with how to live with hearing impairment.

  8. Great post. One day 4 of 8 will realise what a blessing it was to be born into your family. It was so interesting to compare with The
    Genius Academy's Experience
under the UK's National Health system.

  10. You made me cry...I could feel your anguish while sitting in that "confining little room"...

Number 4 was truly blessed when God appointed you her mother.

  11. I found you at Rocks in my Dryer...
I really enjoyed reading your post -- I have a friend who has a daughter with hearing loss and also is dyslelic (sp?) By the way-- I loved your post below about the use of the LEGOS! --

You seem like a professional mom to me! It's time to request a raise!

  13. I came over from Rocks. My 9 year old daughter is hearing impaired and I really needed the encouragement of another mom who gets it. Perfect timing!!

  15. I just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful post over at Rocks In My Dryer. Though I will in no way take your post as a diagnosis for my son it has given me something to look into. He is 3 years old and his speech is way behind. I go back and forth as to what I think could be wrong, knowing that something is not right but dreading to put a label on him. Hearing loss never crossed my mind. Thank you.

  16. Firstly I had to google what 'do me a solid' meant.....the saying hadn't reached me downunder in Aussie land.

What I love about your post over at 'Rocks in my dryer' and ALL your posts for that matter, is it taught me something new.

    You are so articulate.

Give my love to 4 of 8 and also the rest of your tribe.

  18. YOu do realize that I can't concentrate on your post b/c your name has been revealed to me, and I'm wondering why SHE was so lucky. Totally kidding. Now that that is off my chest I'm going to go read. :)

  19. Julie ... I just read this. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all children who faced certain challenges had an advocate such as you in their corner?

    Would you adopt me?

  20. I have worked with the Deaf community in El Paso before and that is when I learned about their culture as a culture all its own as you mentioned. It was, I am sure, a decision you didn't make lightly having read this post.

Interestingly enough...I thought of you this morning before finding out where you would be guest posting when I found rocks in my dryer and thought...OM must have had her share of rocks in the dryer...I guess I should have checked your posts sooner.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  21. That was an awesome post and very touching in the end, about it not being a loss but a beloved part of her and you!

  22. I saw your post on Rocks In My Dryer and knew I had to check out your site! My son was just diagnosed with unilateral conductive hearing loss. He just got his hearing aid about 3 or 4 weeks ago and it has been a blessing! Thank you for writing about it because until I found your site, I hadn't found much "real life, we live with this" information.

    Thanks again!
    Heather
