Homeschool Couture...

IMG_0560

Dear Mighty Fighting Ocelots of Octamom Homeschool Academy:

It has come to our attention that there has been some confusion regarding dress code.  Ever since abandoning the Great Homeschool Uniform Code of '02 (when the neighbor showed up unannounced during the middle of the school day and everyone had on swimsuits...in January) , we have tried to create a firm definition of appropriate school wear.  To clarify any misunderstanding, please keep the following rules and their attendant images on file for future reference.  Thank you.

~~INSTRUCTORS~~

It is important that instructors look professional and crisp at all times.  To that end, we ask that Sock Monkey Jammies be a staple in your wardrobe as the color blue promotes a sense of calm and the sock monkey print helps to camouflage any unfortunate figure flaws.

Please also note that big clips are an essential wardrobe necessity.  See the following image for acceptable Instructor hairstyles.

~~BALLGOWNS ARE NOT ONLY ALLOWED BUT ARE ENCOURAGED~~

We have found that princesses are able to better concentrate on their phonics lessons when they are dressed according to their station in life.  Math lessons are also completed more thoroughly and quickly when crowns are worn.

~~BONUS POINTS ARE GIVEN FOR NO SHIRT, NO SHOES~~

And more bonus points are given if you wear swim trunks, as then we can go with no underwear...all of which cuts laundry loads by an estimated 32.7 percent over the course of a month.  The swimwear uniform is now available as a school day choice since Octamom Homeschool Academy is now conducted in a latitude/longitude coordinate substantially closer to the equator.

~~MULTI-TASKING WARDROBE CHOICES ARE APPRECIATED~~
This also is a visual reminder to the Instructor about the number and type of extracurricular activities on a given day.

~~PAJAMA PANTS AND RECYCLED T-SHIRTS FROM 1ST GRADE SHOW SIGNIFICANT FASHION SENSIBILITY~~
IMG_0570
Glasses from the 1980's with the lenses removed also help render a self-image that is brainy...
IMG_0571
~~ONLY ONE FASHION DIVA IS ALLOWED PER SCHOOL YEAR~~
This is the Diva for this year...if you are not her, do not attempt to care deeply about fashion.  This position has already been filled.

~~SAGGING IS AN APPROPRIATE HOMESCHOOLING GANG SYMBOL~~

...especially when your mother can't remember where she put the bucket of hand-me-downs that is your actual size...

~~GAME CONTROLLERS ARE NOT CONSIDERED SCHOOL DAY ACCESSORIES~~

but Spiderman t-shirts are always welcome...

  15. I'd love to instruct in those pyjamas. :) Although mine would be covered in frogs...

If only the crowns would have existed back in my math-schooling days {hangs head}, it would have made life so much easier!

    Great pictures, as always. :)

  17. That is hilarious! Can we be homeschool chic if we don't homeschool? How about mom of twins chic. I hear a new title for a blog, maybe that one will include bags under your eyes and lots of stains.

  19. This is very cute and funny! You look great! The running is going well. I have just a "short run" (13!) this week, which will probably wait until Sunday because my poor Little Man is sick and I have a friend coming into town.. The race is 10/25! Can't wait! But I'm getting nervous-it's been 5 years since I ran a marathon! I also registered for Disney in January! That one will be fun.

My husband loves your writing. I read them to him (esp. Sunday and Monday) and we talk about them!

  27. Ok I had my hair in the 'big clip' recently (a rare occurance lately since I broke all but 1)and my boys look at me and go "You look like Octamom!" Then giggled, I am pretty sure it was a compliment.
As for pants sagging I quit judging that long ago-little to no tushy creates issues that even belts don't cure.
As for no undies with swimsuits, some in my crew adhere to the commando dress code (despite my objections)regardless the outwear.
So glad to finally see a dress code I can endorse! Love ya!

    ReplyDelete

I love your glasses ... do your really wear those for reading? Or was it just for the picture?

2 of 8 is absolutly amazing ... She's got the toe stand down to a 100. I'm still working on mine for tap. I think I'd fail in ballet. ;)

  43. Hysterical. Ya make me wanna homeschool.

  44. Can I go to your school?

I love '80s glasses. I used to wear my Mom's day in and day out (when I finally decide to upgrade from the plastic lens-less red ones that I used to don while pretending to be Velma from Scooby Doo). Sure, in Mom's glasses I would run into walls and whatnot, but they were so hott.

And the pj dress code...I think that 707 out of 710 total days of my undergrad education were spent in pajamas. There were three really hot summer term days one year, so I think I wore shorts.

  45. All I can say is: You and your kids are beautiful!

  55. OM....! That's short for Octamom or 8th-grade texting vernacular that starts off... "Oh, my..." Or just Southern speak, for "Oh, my... did you see that?"

You crack me up. I loved all of the outfits, and I do think you enjoy your school days far, far, far, more than most of us instructors who fill space in the other realm of schooling :-)

    I love your humor!

  63. I became a homeschooler to seven without much preparation and I find myself in awe that, not only did you undertake it by choice, but your children seem to be thriving. It gives me hope that through work and prayer, I may one day feel equal to the task.

As a general rule I try to avoid addictive substances of any kind, but I find myself hopelessly addicted to the happy, thoughtful and beautiful nature of your blog. Well done.
