M took off Wednesday afternoon after scrambling for plywood, hunting down the elusive Plylox clips and headed for the coast to board up our house that is on the market. 3 and 4 of 8 tagged along to be helpers, and as they were leaving the house, I charged 3 of 8, as oldest son, to keep his father awake on the drive, to be a good helper , and to take my little Sony and to take lots of pictures. I didn't know what kind of pictures we would end up with, but I thought it might be worth a shot (hee hee...get it?...I'm cracking myself up...okay, look, we've had a couple of stressful days here, people...)
The Hurricane Preparedness team came straggling in Thursday afternoon, hot, sweaty, tired, sore, hungry....with pictures. And so, with great pride, I debut 3 of 8's premiere exhibit of photojournalistically capturing the plywood storm before the storm.....
Love this shot. M is beginning the unloading o' the plywood from my 15 passenger van...which we quickly shoveled out from our previous beach trip just 3 days before....

Please admire this pile of plywood. It is like spun gold down on the coast, elusive and precious....and expensive.....

M being chipper....and let me tell you, the smile is fake. Fake, fake, fake. He is not happy. He is totally Dale Carnegie-ing this experience....

The installment begins...

Ominous skies...

Cutting and measuring, cutting and measuring...

Installing the Plylox clips...

The interior view....

All boarded up...(thought this was a great shot on 3 of 8's part...)

Ready for the storm...

...and the obligatory self-portrait....

Our thoughts and prayers are with those along the coast. We are praying for successful evacuations, protected property and most importantly, for safety for coastal residents. And we sure wish we were the ones who came up with those dang expensive Plylox clips....
Wow! What an enormous undertaking! No wonder he wasn't happy. So sorry that you guys had to go through all of that this week. Still praying!
ReplyDeleteAll good thoughts your all's way!
ReplyDeleteYuck, doesn't look like fun at all. Hope all is well for you guys as you wait it out. Oh and I love the green bands on 3 of 8s braces, my daughter chose black, her teeth look rotted out, haha!

Yes - love the background. Good pics. Hope you do not get any damage to the house!!
ReplyDeleteWell, at least you were able to get that van cleaned out in time to fill it back up so the priceless plywood could ride in style. How did M, 3 & 4 of 8 fit in the van after that?
ReplyDeleteI love it that your husband still has a smile on his face.... that looks like a lot of very hard work!! But it looks like the place is prepared and I pray the storm passes quickly and without incident! I have no idea where you are- but I have friends down in Housten. I haven't heard from them in a few days, so I wonder if they took off??
ReplyDeleteLove the festive fall look.

The pictures are mighty fine!!! So glad they arrived back home safely. Tell 3 of 8 I love his work!
ReplyDeleteWho can write about an approaching storm as eloquently as Octamom, I know not.
ReplyDeleteWho can document the process of 'battering down the hatches' as remarkably as 3 of 8, I know not.
And who can photograph oneself with such an awesomely goofy expression on one's face --- why, that glory alone can stand only with 3 of 8, apparently.
Love the fall blog look! I hope your house was okay! What a big job, with plywood!
ReplyDeleteToni
My sweetie would not have a smile on his face either. What a trooper. Sounds like 3 and 4 of 8 were big helpers. I love 3 of 8's self portrait as well. jason and I have a bunch of those from various trips where we have no one to take our photo. I hope that your house weathered the storm ok, and I'm sending prayers to the coast.
ReplyDeleteWay to go 3. You have some very talented kids!
