Monday Musings...and A Question For Ya....

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.
Tell a Friend-Hal Borland

Y'all, it is hot...as in back-side-of-Mercury, volcanic, streets-a-meltin' hot.  Even my veteran mommy heart just doesn't have the chops to make the kids sweat-it-out in the great out of doors.  It's even too hot to swim in the afternoons--we have to wait until the sun is not so intense.

SO, here's a Question For Ya.  When the summer sun is a'blazin', share your best ideas for keeping everyone occupied and not pulling the sheet rock off the walls.  And don't tell me you let 'em play the Wii---we're Wii'd out--well, I am, in terms of Mommy Guilt....

Rules are simple--post your best ideas in the comment line OR post an entry on your blog, put that URL into the Mr. Linky box below and we'll all come over to your place and hang out!  Come on, Dear Readers!  Momma needs some new kid diversions!

  1. AAh well my three really like making paper bag scrapbooks!! But i think your twins may not be so impressed with this as an activity!!
We also spend our "indoor days" baking, cuddling up watching a family movie...monopoly ( a last resort on my part!!)
We build things out of lego (to a theme like boats/ planes/ houses etc.. and see who comes up with the one that floats longest in the bath!
And when things get really desperate we clean and tidy thier bedrooms! LOL
I guess there is always getting the older ones to MAKE some playdough and the younger ones can play with it!! Finger painting is another good one!
    Good Luck whatever you decide!

  2. Boxes. Boxes are great. I just let them have at it with crayons and scissors (if they are old enough) and they create little houses for their guys and stuffed animals. Keep the TV off and they will find plenty to do. I don't know about your kids, but we have way too many toys that suddenly have new life when the kids get "bored!"

  6. My link is from a few weeks ago, but my kids loved the photo hunt we did. If its too hot outside, you could make it all indoor pics. It kept my 6 and 10 year old very occupied and they loved watching me edit the pics they took!

    Good luck!

  9. My idea is of course filled with language.
Make popsicles by adding chunks of fruit that
they of course "cut", "chop", "slice", "sort" and "describe in grammatically correct sentences"!!!!!!! Then of course, describe as they eat!!
